Michal Sosna

Michal Sosna Is a Polish cinematographer, director, visual artist and photographer based in Krakow/ Warsaw.

 

He graduated from the Krzysztof Kieslowski Faculty of Radio and Television at the University of Silesia in Katowice, specializing in cinematography.


His artistic work is strongly focused on documentary and feature film storytelling. He explores visual poetry and human archetypes within the social fabric (inspired by Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”). Driven by commitment to human rights and individuality, Michal actively collaborates on film and documentary projects both locally and globally, including work seen on Netflix, HBO, PBS. 

 

Sosna has authored music videos and documentary films, and published two photography books: “Woman as Fragile as Bombs,” highlighting women’s rights in Poland, and “No Pic No Chat-Autonomy” (2021), exploring the lives of transgender people.


He is the cinematographer for acclaimed films such as “Nago. GÅ‚oÅ›no. Dumnie,” “Pani Basia,” “Solar Voyage,” “Hycel,” “T for Taj Mahal,” “Diamond of Olga,” “Total Loss,” “Saleem,” and many others. Sosna has worked with leading visual artists: Deskur, Woynarowski, Radziszewski, Polska, Doroszuk, Okonski, Lewandowska . His photography and video art have been featured in galleries and exhibitions worldwide, including Bunkier Sztuki (Krakow), Improper Walls (Vienna), La Fabrica (Barcelona), London Photographic Association, New Orleans Photo Alliance, PF (PoznaÅ„), Lokal 30 (Warsaw), Pauza Gallery (Krakow), Rooms Gallery (Gdansk).


He was awarded the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarship. Michal also lectures at Jagiellonian University, the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and AMA Film Academy.
